Your Arai Helmet - Care & Maintenance

Mid-season helmet check
After months of riding, your Arai can benefit from a simple mid-season clean and check. Regular maintenance helps keep your helmet comfortable, clean, and its components working as they should.
1. Keep it simple
We recommend cleaning your Arai with lukewarm water and mild soap. This can be used for the helmet exterior and removable interior components. We advise against using household cleaners or products containing alcohol or solvents, as even mild chemicals can damage helmet components.
2. Don't forget the inside
Remove and clean the interior where possible, following your owner's manual. And while it might be tempting to put your riding gloves inside the helmet when you park, it's best avoided. Velcro can catch on the lining and repeated contact can damage the fabric, while storing sweaty gloves inside can contribute to unpleasant odours.3. Check the ventsDust and debris can collect around the ventilation system. Carefully clean accessible areas with a cotton bud or similar soft tool, taking care not to force anything into the vent openings.
4. Keep moving parts moving
Check the visor mechanism, side pods, and other moving parts for smooth operation. A small amount of lubricant can be used where specified, including around the silicone/rubber seals and moving components. Follow the instructions for your specific helmet.
And finally:
If something isn't working as it should, don't try to force it or repair it yourself.
Arai Pro Shops can inspect your helmet, advise on any necessary repairs or replacement components, and help keep your helmet performing as it should.
You can find all of our EU dealers here, along with your nearest Pro Shops.

When Should You Replace Your Helmet?

All Arai helmets are warranted against defects in material and workmanship, and serviceable only for the properly fitted first user for 5 years after purchase, but no more than 7 years from the date of manufacture.
How do I age my Arai?
Throughout the years, Arai has recorded the manufacture date on helmets in a standard month/year format (for example 07/26). While the manufacture date has always been recorded on the chinstrap, as it is a permanent part of the helmet, the position on the chinstrap has changed over the years for various reasons. Most recently, the date-of manufacture can be found etched on the metal D-ring on the chin strap.
The five-year mark
At Arai we adhere to the benchmark of 5 years to change your helmet from its first use.
Why? Think of a helmet in terms of the human body; no matter how good it may look, or how well you take care of it, age still takes its toll.
Even with minimal use, a helmet is affected by things like the acids and oils in sweat, haircare products, cleaners, polishes, pollution, exposure to UV rays. At about the five-year mark, helmet interiors begin to show wear and/or deterioration, which should serve as an alert to its overall condition.
The helmet’s fit may begin to feel a little loose, and not as snug as it once did. This, as well as unseen aging and deterioration of the EPS liner and fibreglass shell can affect the helmet’s ability to perform as it was originally designed in an impact.
If a helmet suffers an impact and any doubt exists as to its further ability to protect, it should either be returned to the manufacturer for competent inspection or discarded and replaced.
This is why it is recommended to replace your helmet after five years, and if your helmet becomes less than snug in fit, or damaged, it should be replaced before the five-year mark.

Factory Tour Series - Volume Six

Our Factory Tour series continues with Volume Six: the Final Painting Process.
The livery and colour scheme of an Arai is an important part of the riding experience and rider passion.
To advance in the production process, any small paint defects are repaired. As you have seen, each step is meticulously done by hand. No matter the step in the process, every worker can take pride in the protection they are providing to riders. This personal pride intertwines with the work they do. Then the clear coat is applied. Each helmet is finished one-by-one with care.
After all painting is completed, the surface of the shell, which is the customer's face, is polished and carefully inspected. The time-consuming but reliable painting techniques of Arai contribute to our helmets’ success, and we can create a strong shell to protect the rider’s head.

Model Spotlight

This month we're admiring the RX-7V EVO Spectre Cyan and Spectre Violet. Coming from the drawing board of our long-time collaborator Drudi Performance, the Spectre pairing offers a slick retro look straight from the '80s. Each design is made up of colour blocks and stripes, dominated by circles either side of the helmet.
Spectre Cyan utilises white, blues, pinks, black, and reds for a negative-style contrast colourway, while the more subtle Spectre Violet features white, black, blue, violet and fluoro yellow for a darker-yet-striking visual.
You can find more info on the Spectre and the entire Arai Collection, as well as your nearest Arai dealer, at www.araihelmet.eu

The Egg Shape Behind Every Helmet we Make
For more than 30 years Arai have held true to the belief in the egg shape - nature's strongest shape. The characteristics of the egg capture what we seek for optimal rider protection: rounder, stronger, smoother. This form is behind every helmet we make, ensuring that the Glancing Off performance delivers our Priority for Protection in the event of an impact.
